This is a big week for Chill Expeditions! Most of our team is gathered in our Costa Rica office for a week of professional development meetings with our naturalist field guides. We have formal professional development seminars at least twice a year, with the goal of constantly evolving and improving the unique eco-immersion experience we offer our clients on our Eco-Adventures. Although we feel we already offer fantastic travel experiences that are unlike any other Eco-Tours around, we continue to challenge ourselves (as we do our travelers!) to go above and beyond and take our approach to the next level, always growing and improving. During this week of meetings, we share knowledge, tools, and inspiration for what each and every one of us at Chill Expeditions is truly passionate about- providing life changing Eco-Immersion travel experiences for students, teachers, and families.
So what actually goes on during our professional development meetings? The day starts with lots of fresh Costa Rican coffee… Shortly after 8, our guides start to stream in from all over the country, some having journeyed hours from their hometowns to our office in San Jose. “Casa Blanca”, our CE office here in the central valley, is filled with music, chatter, and the buzz of excitement from our guides and office staff. After everyone has arrived, we gather together to begin our seminar. Topics may range from fine-tuning the use of the Story Approach (the narrative teaching method our guides use during our Eco-Adventures to share information in a dynamic and understandable way), to sharing strategies for providing the highest level of service to our clients- making all feel comfortable even in extreme environments, to safety techniques- always a top priority in all of our trip planning and execution.
We are active- all guides and staff participating, sharing, learning from each other and benefitting from the fantastic wealth of knowledge that accumulates when 2 lifelong teachers, 20+ experienced naturalist guides, and passionate and talented staff members are all gathered together in one place! After a delicious lunch (catered by one of our favorite vegetarian restaurants in San Jose), we reconvene for a dynamic activity- we may venture into the heart of San Jose to practice Eco-Immersion in action- connecting what we see, taste, hear, the people we meet, and the places we go- in a cohesive way that not only gives us a greater understanding of where we are, but also how that connects to each our lives at home- wherever that may be! The week is fun, dynamic, and inspirational- a great way to start 2013! Stay tuned for more updates on our seminar, inspiration for eco-immersion travel, and the constant evolution of Chill Expeditions!
